Yeah, I've been thinking of that.
SCOTUS and the conservative power players who own six of them don't need Trump any more. They've got their Federalist Society majority now.
They also want a way to get rid of him. This looks like it.
Certainly a possibility.
The fallout from this scenario -- regarding the MAGAified GOP -- will be immense, from the roots up. If Rs are scared NOW of blowback from their voters (death threats, etc) merely for expressing a negative word about DJT...wait until/if their beloved Roberts majority 14/sec 3 his ass. (As they should.)
We could say that we'll just sit back and watch them eat themselves alive but we know that's not how it works.
Generally agree BUT -- we thought the capitol building had extraordinary security, too. That said, we have a basic idea of what happened in THAT situation.
As far as the corp/donors go...they made their own deal with the devil with Trump -- snag the non-voting deplorables and the WWE/reality show types with DJT and get the tax cuts. Kochs, et al can't just drop him cuz nobody else has the cheeto flavor. Recall R DJT-phobia in '16 until nomination time...
We'll see.

Wait and see, yep.
I have no idea what the donors want their GOP justices to do.
The corporate donors made their deal with the devil, true. But they've already got what they wanted out of him - the tax cuts and the stacked SCOTUS to rule in their favor.
They don't need him any more. If/when they turn on him, expect to see a propaganda campaign against him designed to reach the Trump Faithful, telling them how awful he is and how great their next puppet will be.
But again, we'll see.
@Tarnagh @InUnfunky
True - the SCOTUS was their main goal. It is was why I wanted HRC to win.
Yep, yep.
So the Roberts court rules that DJT can't run, chaos ensues, it calms down to a relative degree, the Rs lose cuz no one has the cheeto power, and we have another D for 4 years. Presuming no electoral shenanigans.
I can't see the R higher-ups walking away from DJT -- the party has abased itself to the point of no return. Why would they give up the person whom some worship and others view as an indispensable means to an end? There are always taxes and regs to cut.
@InUnfunky @Tarnagh
Trump has pretty much said to the GOP, it is me or nobody - I will tell my voters not to show up in Nov 2024.
Some of them are already saying that. There was a screen grab of ... Laura Loomer? ... saying that the other day.
It will depend on how much regular (and even some MAGA) Republicans would rather see a Democrat in control. For all the talk, I doubt that'll happen.
What sparked these thoughts for me was this piece from Mark Cuban - does SCOTUS really want to risk a Democrat pulling a Trump play? I don't think Biden would, but that's no guarantee for the future.
Credit to you, @Bix for posting that earlier, btw. 🙂
@Tarnagh @InUnfunky
Note, I don't want to search for the quotes, but Trump has said similar things as Loomer.
@InUnfunky @Bix
The capitol building *does* have extraordinary security - when it's ordered to be there.
The problem at the time of 1/6 was who was in charge of that security. That wasn't a failure, it was deliberate sabotage.
That won't happen this time, I think.
As it applies to SCOTUS, security is likely to become even tighter. The Federalist Society types want to keep their majority there.
I agree that we'll have to wait and see. I've been wrong before and may be wrong now.
