@corlin "'Nature' is not natural in the human sense. It is something we are embedded inside of."
That's a keeper. Too often (i.e., nearly always) forgotten.
@mcfate Maybe, but didn't he already have that vote? VP Harris will never get it, that's for sure.
@DavidSalo It falls in line with a consistent theme in conservative (tm) ideology since at least 1950: the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be getting something he or she isn't entitled to. Hence means tests for every kind of aid, gene tests to "prove" one's gender, standardized tests to make sure schools are actually doing something worthwhile with the buckets and buckets of money they get (🙄). Because we wouldn't want anyone to have an unfair advantage (other than rich folks' kids).
@Maude You can't say it lacks appeal.
@Maude I would only regret not using stronger language. Though there's a case for using more accurate epithets, like "shallow conniving narcissistic idiot."
@SuperDuke If you're not going to bother with an apostrophe on what is obviously a possessive, you may not wish to call attention to the omission by adding the 's'. The shorter form indicates that the apostrophe and final 's' may also be considered things you don't give a fuck about.
Also, the added 's' is unnecessary. Unnecessary letters, like unnecessary words, should be omitted.
For a truly professional tone I'd suggest using more syllables, e.g. "On the behalf of every imaginable fuck...."
@mcfate No problem, the countries they're sending them back to will pay. Just like Drumpf got Mexico to pay for the wall. Easy-peasy.
@Maude Stealing this.
@WayneEdH If Drumpf had any sense of decency he would sit this election out, not wanting to run pending trial. But then he couldn't run until he was he was 82. Poor Donold.
(Autocorrect just tried to turn "Donold" into "Donolf" -- the second time today the feature I always curse has turned out to be surprisingly perceptive.)
#politics
@estherschindler Average white men on Fox should be careful about calling anyone mediocre.
I don't even need to mention the stunning mediocrities Fnews has championed, starting with GW Bush.
@mcfate The thing is, a lot of us *are* weird, and proud of it. There's a tag that pops up regularly in Olympia, "keep Oly weird!" We have bumper stickers like "You laugh at us because we're different; we laugh at you because you're all the same."
Getting called "weird" stings at first, but one learns to embrace it. Even a few MAGAts have figured that out, e.g. the Qanon Shaman. Drumpf and Couch Boy are way behind.
@mcfate Thomas Mann based a whole novel on the main character's inner conflict between his mother's sunny southern European Dionysian nature and his father's colder Northern European Apollonian nature. It's typical of MAGA thinking that the only conceivable solution to this conflict is to pick one and pretend the other doesn't exist.
@Gladari It speaks well of the Democrats that they're perfectly willing to curb every president's powers regardless of party.
@Gladari This puts GOP senators in an awkward position. They obviously would want this bill to pass if they thought the next president would be a Democrat, not if they thought the next president would be Trump. So voting "Aye" would indicate pessimism about Trump’s chances; voting "Nay" would show optimism, but leave future president Harris unrestrained.
@mcfate Maybe we can get assault weapons banned on account of their leading to a decline in marksmanship.
@mcfate His disavowal of Project 2025 is like junk food: gratifying, but lacking substance.
Someone should ask him who's a better lay: Stormy Daniels or his favorite couch.
@b2bjacks With whom? I favor Ted Cruz or Lindsey Graham, but those are just the first that popped into my head (to be popped right out again).
@corlin Interesting. I know several neurodivergent people (yes, this is anecdotal) and one thing they have in common is that they don't laugh much, or at all. One has a fine sense of humor, regularly cracks up his friends, but never does more than smile himself.
The common factor, I think, is not so much neurodivergence as social impairment. Being the only one who laughs can be as embarrassing as being the only one who doesn't.
@piquant00 So *that's* what happened to his ear!
Grew up in Cupertino before Apple, lived in Berkeley, now retired in South Puget Sound. He/him.
