I'm more confused than usual by this latest right-wing obsession, which started with a claim that "Venezuelan gangs" were taking over "apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado" which at best was blowing some minor incident totally out of proportion but may not have been based on anything real at all, and was then followed with a totally false claim that Hell's Angels biker gangs were converging on Aurora to fight the (supposed) Venezuelans.

What's the point of it all?

@DavidSalo Vivid videos of one apartment complex being "taken over" look like truth, lead to conclusion that it's happening in a lot of places, including yours--fear.
Hell's Angels, not the cops, liberals have tied their hands, we need people who don't follow the rules (to protect us from lawbreakers, go figure).
TFG is the strongman needed at this critical time to restore order by any means necessary.
Duterte's attack on a city in the southern Philippines was described to me in similar terms.

@ImagineThat

So it's all code for some kind of existential angst, and it doesn't matter that none of it is really true in fact because it's emblematic of a narrative that they "deeply believe" to be "really true" on a level that's beyond mere facts? In other words, the story doesn't need substantiation as long as it reflects their inner, unexamined and unexaminable fears and prejudices?

@DavidSalo Exactly.
To hold certain beliefs is to belong to a certain tribe, and people are so tribal -- ultrasocial, zoologists call it -- they will literally willingly die (and kill) for their tribe's beliefs.
