Our own small bit of election good news: it looks like our incumbent sheriff, a perfect model of the corrupt but invulnerable petty tyrant, is getting tossed out on his ear. In my experience, that NEVER happens (and I hope I'm not jinxing it now) -- sheriffs seem to be made of duranium covered with reinforced concrete and Teflon. But maybe not this sheriff, this time.
