HiPOD 20 Dec 2022: Dunes of Meridiani Planum
This observation shows really nice, well-spaced barchan and dome dunes that were visible in a 2008 image, In 2014, we detected changes with another picture of the same area. With a stereo pair and a digital terrain model, we can better quantify the sand flux.

HiRISE 3D: Cross-Cutting Channels in Olympica Fossae
Many different channel morphologies occur at this section of Olympica Fossae. Of interest are cross-cutting relationships, relative depths, channel profiles both across and longitudinally, and how they intersect the surrounding surface.

HiPOD 19 Dec 2022: Cutting through History
In this image, we see a portion of Cerberus Fossae cutting hills that predate volcanic flooding. With this observation, we can take another high resolution look at previously exposed stratigraphy. There might be a be a nice stack of ancient lavas.

HIPOD 18 Dec 2022: Bright Slope Streaks in Arabia Terra
Slope streak formation is among the few known processes currently active on Mars. The cause of slope streaks is still debated, and both dry and wet processes have been proposed to explain their formation.

HiRISE 3D: At Mamers Valles
Our goal is to examine the source region of these lineated valleys. Are there distinctions between the viscous flow on the valley floor and the surrounding upland terrain that may reveal surficial deposition of ice vs subsurface seepage?

HiPOD 16 Dec 2022: A Patchy Outcrop of Light-Toned Materials
This observation targets patchy exposures of light-toned outcrops. These materials may be chloride bearing. Erosion appears to have cut through the entirety of the light-toned materials, which should allow probing of the stratigraphic context, thickness and any possible internal layering of these materials.

HiRISE 10K: Opal Deposits near Valles Marineris
This HiRISE image gives some clues to how the minerals are expressed on the surface.

HiRISE 3D: A Crater in the North Polar Layered Deposits
In other images of this site, a darker area adjacent to the crater has been moving closer to the crater. There is also a circular deposit of bright material just outside the rim.

HiPOD 15 Dec 2022: Hearts in Atlantis, Dunes in Hellas
Scientists on the HiRISE team take multiple pictures of the same dune fields on the Red Planet to see if they can detect subtle changes that would indicate if the dunes are moving. Some Martian dune fields do shift and move under the present day environmental conditions, but at a rate that is typically much slower than dunes move on Earth.
HiRISE 8K: Compositionally Diverse Bedrock in Nili Fossae
An adjacent image have helped us view reported clays and mafic materials, so our goal for this observation is to get more of the terrain in high resolution and study the diverse lithologies here. See link for full 8K cutout.)
HiRISE 3D: Ring-Shaped Landforms between Arcadia Planitia and Amazonis Planitia
Context Camera images show a bunch of ring-shaped features that could be degraded rootless cones, so it’s worth a closer look.

HiPOD 14 Dec 2022: Mysterious Crater Deposits
The deposits are found only in craters larger than 600 meters in diameter and are absent from craters measuring 450 meters and less. The deposits are located on the south sides of the craters but not in the north (although the cutout shows a crater that also has windblown deposits in the north).

HiRISE 4K: Possible Olivine-Rich Terrain
Olivine is the common name for a suite of iron-magnesium silicate minerals known to crystallize first from a magma and to weather first in the presence of water into clays or iron oxides. (See link for full cutout.)

HiPOD 13 Dec 2022: Channels on a Streamlined Island of Kasei Vallis
This image focuses on small channels formed on the floor of the much larger Kasei Valles, one of the largest outflow channels on Mars.
The enormous floods that formed such channels sometimes flowed around either side of topographic rises forming islands with a streamlined shape.
HiRISE 3D: Inside or Outside?
It seems that lava(?) poured down a chute on the north wall of this crater and flooded its interior. Or perhaps not! Looking at how flows poured into craters is one possible approach to estimating flow properties.

HiPOD 12 Dec 2022: Tectonic, Volcanic and Fluvial Activity?
This image shows two cross-cutting depressions that may have been formed by the collapse of weak terrain along pre-existing faults. These faults are associated with the release of volcanic material and/or liquid water.
HiPOD 11 Dec 2022: Fan-Shaped Deposits in Bigbee Crater
Bigbee is a 21 kilometer-diameter impact crater located on the northern rim of Holden Crater in southern Margaritifer Terra, a region on Mars that is well known for its long record of water-rich activity.
