HiRISE 3D: In Coprates Chasma

Landslides in this region may expose sub-surface ice, and erosion may cause chunks of ice to roll down the cliffs, thus creating slope lineae.

HiPOD 9 Dec 2022: Ridges and Channels in Memnonia Sulci

These ridges and channels in Memnonia Sulci may be part of a fan complex on the dichotomy boundary of Amazonis Planitia and Terra Sirenum. This target was requested to deduce the history of fluvial activity in the region and the relationship of the fans to the Medusa Fossae Formation to the east of here.

HiRISE 10K: Dipping Layers in Protonilus Mensae

This chain of impact craters almost look like they’ve all melted! But our objective here is to examine the dipping layers within the craters. This scene is also visible in a larger Context Camera image. (See link for full cutout.)

HiRISE 3D: More in Iani

One 3D image post isn’t enough! Here is another area of Iani Chaos and its gorgeous rock outcroppings.

HiPOD 8 Dec 2022: Pristine with Gullies

We call this 7-kilometer diameter crater “pristine” because while it is old, the rim is fairly sharp and not very eroded. The science goal for this observation is to investigate the topography of the east-facing wall, pictured here, where gullies and mantling deposits transition to the normal crater wall.

HiRISE 8K: Layering in Uzer Crater Wall

Light-toned layered rocks are visible on the wall of Uzer Crater, located in Sinus Meridiani near the equator in the Northern Hemisphere of Mars. (See link for full cutout.)

HiRISE 3D: Light-Toned Materials in Iani Chaos

Could these light-toned deposits be sulfates or other hydrated materials?

HiPOD 7 Dec 2022: The Upside-Down in Terra Sabaea

This image captures a portion of the extensive tributary ridge networks found within this unique crater near the highlands of the Hellas impact basin.

HiClip mini 4K: Semper gelidus

“Always cold” or “always icy” is the best translation for the title of this clip. We are looking at a scene of the South Polar residual cap.

This is a non-narrated clip with ambient sound.

HiRISE 4K: A Bounty of Northern Hemisphere Gullies

The orientation of these gullies is of interest because many craters only contain gullies on certain walls, such as those that are pole-facing. (See link for full cutout and additional info.)

HiRISE 3D: Bright Patches in Terra Sirenum

The CaSSIS mission has identified 10-meter scale bright patches on irregular collapse feature rims here. Could it be possible mud volcanism?

HiPOD 6 Dec 2022: Exploring Coprates Chasma

Light toned material has been observed by the Context Camera and potentially reflects low-calcium pyroxene that indicates pristine crustal material exposed in this location. This is an area of interest for a potential future rotorcraft mission traverse (Mars Science Helicopter) that would explore this and other terrains in situ.

HiRISE 3D: Dipping Layers in Tantalus Fossae

Our science goal is to understand the stratigraphy of these glacier-related layers.

HiPOD 5 Dec 2022: A Light-Toned Exposure in Tyrrhena Terra

The objective of this observation is t o determine the nature of an exposure of light-toned material. This material appears in different spots in a Context Camera image. This picture is one of the most intense spots: that is, it shows quite a contrast with the surrounding ground. Pictures like these may be combined with CRISM data to better understand what is going on in this region.

HiPOD 4 Dec 2022: Raining Rocks

Impact ejecta is material that is thrown up and out of the surface of a planet as a result of the impact of an meteorite, asteroid or comet. The material that was originally beneath the surface of the planet then rains down onto the environs of the newly formed impact crater.

HiPOD 3 Dec 2022: Eroded Scallops with Layers

The scalloped depressions are typical features; a smooth layered terrain located between 40 and 60 degrees in both hemispheres. Scalloped depressions probably form by removal of ice-rich subsurface material by sublimation (ice transforming directly from a solid to a gaseous state), a process that may still be active today.

HiPOD 2 Dec 2022: Mounds in Utopia Planitia

This mound within a crater might have been formed due to the impact itself. It may also provide insight into the formation mechanisms of the adjacent pitted cones. A digital terrain model will provide further structural analysis.
