HiRISE 4K: Diverse Materials in Meridiani Planum

Located 2 degrees south of the Martian equator, Meridiani Planum hosts a rare occurrence of the crystalline hematite, which on Earth often forms in hot springs or in standing pools of water. Could there have been an equivalent in Meridiani in the ancient past? (See link for full cutout.)
