So I'm in a bit of a bind. I need the rabies vaccine. 4 shots over 2 weeks. I'm being required to go inside an ER to do so, because I guess no one else is capable of a simple muscular injection into my arm? If I catch COVID-19 I and two members of my family will die.
Called the ERs. They will not do the injections outside. I'm having to choose between possibly dying from rabies, or possibly dying from COVID-19 (which includes two loved ones likely catching it from me and also dying).
Ideas?
@Hettivong any chance of trapping the animal that bit you? when i was bit by a feral cat & went to the ER, all they did was hand me a bottle of disinfectant cleaner & a scrub brush, & told me to scrub the bite for 15 minutes. rabies shots were not offered. (i did trap the cat later & he was euthanized & tested negative, but i was less than impressed with the hospital experience)
@Hettivong will your doc request they send it to him?
@Hettivong that sucks, i'm sorry.
if it was me:
bring sanitizer wipes and wear two layers of clothes. shower cap on hair.
suit up to go in. n95 mask, glasses/face shield/whatever. sacrificial clothes. get the shot, leave asap.
toss everything that was on the "outside" in your trunk after, taking great care to not touch the inner layer or get the outside on the inside, so to speak. remove mask/cap, sanitize all exposed skin thoroughly.
shower/change after. laundry.
isolate just in case.
My moral and ethical code is clear: no ER, as the risk to two others is absolutely unacceptable.
I don't understand why they can't ship it to my doc, or do the injection outside. The area I'm in has extremely high COVID-19 community spread. I don't know if we even have a single ICU bed left.
