@HeartOfChina One day, out walking my dog, a very old Chinese man in a wheelchair signaled a frantic stop. His caretaker stopped him, he concentrated and pointed at my dog Jade, and pronounced koo-woe. Not satisfied, he said more vigorously KOO-WOE. Apparently exhausted, he seemed satisfied and relaxed back into his wheelchair. That’s how I (more or less) learned the word for dog. (The old man’s first language was probably Fukien).
