@Greytdog Well now thanks for sharing. I’ve almost always have seen mulch done as in pictures 1-5 . particularly around small trees/ saplings. Explains that root phenomena.

@Greytdog this is very true. Sadly losing almost 80% of the trees in our local park due to this. Some are salvageable but will be costly to have remedied.
