So just how true is it - if at all - that people who talk about killing themselves will never kill themselves? that it's a ploy to be the center of attention? That's what I've been hearing concerning a niece of mine - Very scared she's serious

I can say from personal family experience that it's not always the case. Follow your gut.

@Greytdog Not true. Sometimes they're voicing it because it's a real idea in their heads.

And even if suicide isn't her goal, she's seeking attention for a reason. *Something* is going on that intervention can reveal and help her with.

Look at it this way: If she gets help, she lives whether she's faking or not. If she doesn't get help, she may live or she may die. Not helping her is gambling her life; helping her is not gambling her life.
