@Graci

I encourage parents of trans kids to go ahead and get their names legally changed once their kids have settled on one. Obviously that takes some filling fees. For those who can, do it. It'll save them some heartache.

I gave my kid names that aren't gender specific (not even with spelling). They aren't trans, but I'm glad they'd have had some flexibility if they were.

@Agatha Agreed. It's the easiest thing for navigating a society that loves barriers

@Graci

I was so pissed when I got a bill from the ambulance service after my SIL died, and they dead named her. EVERYTHING was legally changed. Birth certificate, bills, her medical insurance, her ID, SS card, banking, work badge, etc was all in her true name. I don't know where they dug up that old name, but that wouldn't have been obvious if they talked to her friends who were there, checked her ID, etc. They made an effort to dead name her. 😡

@Agatha Heck, we had a hard time with my wife's last name because the hospital's system still had her name from her previous marriage. They made her jump all sorts of hoops. The arrogance of the healthcare system (or hospital system) is astounding.

@Graci

I just got mail from a last name I got rid of *26 years ago*. That was not a welcome reminder that I used to be married to my groomer.

@Graci @Agatha it's there error.as long as she has the correct ID-- admitting can &Must change it.
