Do you think -some- of the right's push against transgender people is because Biden has been so supportive?
@Graci I think it is a combination of religious bigotry, strategy (gender norms are taken for granted in some populations who have no good reason to vote Republican), and that out transgender folk are such a tiny minority that plenty of people don't have any direct experience with you and thus work from stereotypes or whatever they're told. Biden's support is the cherry on top.
@Graci I think Biden's support has some of the same calculations involved in reverse; he has a long history of coming late to enlightened views, and only when it benefits him politically.
@Graci Not _that many_ years ago. I'm not saying his heart wasn't in it. I'm not saying that political calculation was involved, but I have my suspicions. Doesn't matter on the ground, but we were speaking of motivations.
