I didn't have Iran teaching the world lessons in challenging gender bias jotted down in my 2022 Global Events Almanac.

But I'm happy to be surprised!

For years there has been a significant cultural tension around wearing a hijab. Some women have said it's their intrinsic motivation, and it's liberating. Others have said that it's an oppressive imposed "tradition."

Now both sides are standing together against authoritarian overreach and oppression.

What happens here will be significant.

One of the most hopeful moments I’ve had in the Internet came when Twitter can’t together to boost the voices of the people of Iran. Unfortunately, instead of being a catalyst it was a swan song. Nowadays we’re more likely to find tirades that are anti trans, anti abortion, anti immigrant, anti women, etc, than anyone trying to help other people. Something needs to change.

We need to stand with three Iranian people.

So now Putin has upped the ante for his own people. Still, I doubt anything will change. He is a madman.
