We unfortunately experienced another sad #CoSoCaturday yesterday, when we had to say goodbye to our lovely Leila, with whom we had the joy of spending 19 years & 6 days. She took a turn for the worse & we had to make a terrible decision for her. We will miss her terribly! 😿💜💛 #CatsOfCoSo
@Knitpurrl Thank you! She will have plenty of fun with orange kitties, then, because her orange brothers Leo and Mikey will be able to greet her as well. I can’t believe we’ve had to go through losing 2 of them only 5 weeks apart. It’s definitely rough, but I guess we just have to expect it will go this way when they get past a certain age. It is never easy, though.
@Knitpurrl Wow - that’s impressive that you’ve had them all live that long. It’s never enough time, but 19+ years is the longest one of ours has lived yet. We’ve told our remaining kitties that they need to set a goal to live at least as long as Leila did, if not longer. We will see what happens - we do our best to give them the happiest, healthiest lives possible. We’re down to two 16-year-olds, a 3-year-old and three who are about to turn 3 now.
@GEAUXJayna Yes… they really need to set kitty goals! 😹 Remind them of all the crazies and treats they’ll have to look forward to.
🥰🤣🥰
On longevity… our Siamese cats (3) all lived 21 yr. I think that’s a trait of theirs. Also all our kitties up until our current one were indoor - outdoor and supplemented their canned food diet with ‘fresh’ food which I think helped them. We lived in safe areas for them to be outside during the day. 1/2
@GEAUXJayna 2/2
But that’s not the case now, our chonky would be a tasty bit for many animals where we live now 🤣
@Knitpurrl Yeah, ours are indoor only. Over the years, we switched from only feeding kibble to feeding in combo with more natural brands of canned food, along with freeze-dried raw. We think that has helped their overall health immensely.
@Knitpurrl I first started researching it when our original kitty, Bailey, was temporarily diagnosed with diabetes in 2012. We fixed that without meds - we simply switched him to an all canned food (high-protein, low-carb) diet. His blood sugar was normal for the rest of his life as a result.
@GEAUXJayna It’s not. 19yrs is a large chunk of our lives to be showered with adorable love and it’s so hard to fill that void. All our puttycats have lived 19 - 21 yrs. And it’s a gut wrench to let them go but those years were filled to the brim with love and shenanigans. Such a gift, both ways. ❤️
