I was obsessed with EC horror comics when I was a kid. They had started reprinting them when I was maybe 7. I was never a huge fan of Mad, but I did love seeing Jack Davis there, even if no one was being murdered. Anyway, this is a great little video that goes through all the major Mad artists. I was shocked to learn that Al Jaffee is still alive -- he's 101!
@mcfate Looking back at all the stuff my parents allowed me to read and watch, I really am shocked CPS wasn't called. But I'm glad they weren't!
@FranklyCurious I loved EC! My mom bought me two posters that I wish I still had - one was Tales from the Crypt and the other was Vault of Horror, I think. Perfect for a ten-year-old.
@bubblegenius Even the western and war comics were great. But yeah, the horror was clearly where the passion was!
@FranklyCurious And the axes! I found an images of one of the posters. The other one had an axe in it too but I can't find it - it was IIRC a cheating couple and the husband they murdered standing in the doorway with an axe in his head. I'll have to pull out my hardback EC collection book and see if I can scare it up.
@bubblegenius That one's awesome! Jack Davis was so great. The other sounds like a Johnny Craig cover. He did stuff that looked like it was from a romance comic but, of course, with a twist!
@FranklyCurious
I had large collections of "Eerie" and "Creepy" I was obliged to hide from my parents.
