The best people often come in what society thinks of as the worst packages. They don't brag, or promote themselves, or make a big show out of what they do. To the rest of the world they're ordinary, even sub-ordinary people. Yet they make a huge difference to everyone around them.

We could all stand to stop celebrating self-proclaimed superheroes and start appreciating the really wonderful people in our midst.

If all my #Thanksgiving posts seem as if I'm implying that the Pilgrims were not nice people, I'm not. I'm saying it.

They left England for Holland to practice their own brand of religious intolerance, and then they left Holland for present-day New England because their racism couldn't handle watching their kids adopt (gasp!) Dutch language and culture. They had no qualms about theft, kidnapping, or murder, because their version of God condoned whatever they wanted.

I'll go make pie now.
