Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of any UK org's who help someone to get a mattress please?
I bought new one when I moved last year, having no idea house was rife with damp. Damp has been sorted but mattress is now mouldy and I've slept on the sofa for last 9 months.
It's difficult being ill as the sofa itself is not uncomfortable but it's only a two-seater and I loll over the edge and I would REALLY, REALLY like to be able to sleep in a bed!
Thank you.
@FernLovebond Fine. But frankly I don't think it's a big issue.
@Florence
I didn't say it was a big issue, but asked if you could please respect the norms of the community and the basic intention of the site administrator/ owner in the use of the key means ppl have of finding content. It's also a small, low-effort way you can show respect for the group of us who pin the column for the help tags & monitor it regularly all day to try helping those w/ difficulty engaging on CoSo.
I volunteer my time & energy to help, so maybe it matters more to me than you.
Ugh I am sorry to hear you lack comfortable sleeping :(
I wonder if #cosomutualaid might bring this to the right eyes?
💙
@Minholkin Thank you but I am not comfortable really asking for donations or anything as I think EVERYONE is having a hard time with the cost of living currently and at least I have a home. I'd just like to sleep in a bed!
I cannot blame you one bit--but someone might know someone...I think of mutualaid not only as financial support but connecting other kinds of resources :)
@Minholkin Yes, that's true. I was just hoping there may be some org that I haven't thought of! I have tried. MacMillan, the cancer people are also trying to find one for me but funding and donations from org's are less plentiful this year. But thanks so much.
What is the size of the mouldy mattress? It might help to know the size and if there are any specifications for one you want to acquire.
@Florence Sorry, I've spent some time googling but apart from commercial outlets offering delivery (which I gather you don't want) I can't find any charities offering mattress. Perhaps one of the charity shops local to you (British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research, etc) can do you a deal or supply somethiing free - they deliver. Good luck x
@Florence www.endfurniturepoverty.org might have some pointers. If you don't mind secondhand, freecycle.org, preloved.co.uk or the free items section of gumtree.com might prove fruitful. Good luck!
@Florence Can your local Age UK advise you or help at all?
@MaisieTortie_16 I'm not old enough for them! 😂
@Florence I think they help people over 50. The age range has come down a bit recently.
@Florence have you been able to find a way forward about replacing your mattress?
@Mauve_matelot No, but worse is that the rebuilt wall seems to have made no difference. Last week water poured in again with heavy wind and rain so the room is unusable again. I'll be continuing my palliative care sleeping on the sofa apparently! Oh well. Thank you for asking. xx
@Florence
I can appreciate your need to find a solution, & wish you the best in meeting your needs, but the /#Help tag is intended, per the user guide, to be for asking the community to assist you with problems using CoSo, not personal issues.
Please don't use the tag for anything but it's intended purpose. Those of us who monitor that tag (and /#CoSoHelp) are doing so to help fellow users, not solve life crises.
Thank you for your consideration. And again, best of luck with your issue.
