In the UK, my quarterly power bill in the winter is normally around £350/£400. Due to the hike in prices, my estimated bill for this quarter is going to be £1200. I literally can't pay that. Therefore, no heating for me!
It really is ridiculous how many of us are in this situation.
@Florence Yep, I worked out that gas for a quarter would currently cost me £1200 *just for heating* (not counting hot water). That does not include electricity, and that would be keeping the house at 15C for two hours per day. Crazy.
@homebird Totally correct. Even if I use electric heaters (which ARE a little cheaper) it makes hardly any difference.
@Florence I get dressed every day with thermals, t-shirts, and sweaters, then light a candle-pot to keep one room above 15C - that's the best I can do. I know that when the frost hits, the heating will have to go on for burst pipes, but I am dreading it!
@homebird Me too. Fortunately, in a way, I'm in end-of-life care and so just stay in bed most of the time. I also have a heated electric throw thing which is quite cheap to run. But it really is ridiculous that this is the situation.
@homebird Nope. Except, i think they probably DO, they just don't care.
@Florence I believe you! They haven't a clue, have they?
