And this is why I do multiple passes every time I do a round of galley edits.

I just found an instance of (other's').

Sigh.

@kmwarfield I do multiple edits and someone still finds stuff. *sigh*

@DarkeConteur Yep.

There was a typo (betweeb) in book 1 that didn't get caught until I got the physical proof copy.

@kmwarfield I *used* to have a button on Word that would allow me to listen to what I wrote, but since I was forced to upgrade to Windows 11, I can't find it. I wonder if it would find little blips like that?

@DarkeConteur That's the thing. I read my books out loud to myself before they went to my publisher.

I didn't catch it.

Neither did my betas, my editor, the copy editor, or my multiple trips through the galley.

Ugh.

@FantasyFictionAuthor @DarkeConteur My problem is usually that I have to make myself stop at some point because I’m rewriting sentences that don’t need to be changed.

@FantasyFictionAuthor @DarkeConteur

I've known authors who just can't stop tweaking. Ever. Like they would demand a typo on page 243 be fixed, convinced it was the reason the book wasn't selling.

Um, if nobody's buying it they won't know it's there....

@kmwarfield @FantasyFictionAuthor Agreed, and even if they did buy it, if the story is engaging enough, they won't notice something THAT small.

@DarkeConteur @FantasyFictionAuthor

Yep. My rule is that the galley goes back if I'm rewriting sentences. Not due to continuity or a bad phrase, but simply because I'm not sure it's what I want it to say.

My anxiety causes enough havoc. I refuse to let it control that step.
