Today my hubby and I have been married 13 years, together for 21 years. Asked him if he ever thought he'd be married to someone for this long. His reply? "Hell, I didnt even think I'd live this long!". 😆😆😆😆 Its also my birthday and he's making margarita shrimp and grilling ribeyes for our dinner. Yum!!

Prehistoric 80 million year old shark discovered in Awashima, Japan.
My little sister would have been 56 today had she not died 7 years ago. We were born 6 years + 5 days apart and mom began combining our BD celebrations probably 25 years ago which neither of us minded. I miss her so much. Heck I bought my house here because she was just a 5 minute drive away, I didn't, and still don't, know anyone else who lives here and really never cared to because I had my sister and that was enough. She was funny, ribald, loving, kind, and generous of spirit. #sad #sister
So I was skimming the pool at about 3 am two nights ago (we've been doing a SLAM for black algae for about 3 weeks now and I suffer from insomnia so it seemed like a good time for it) and scooped out what I thought was a big leaf. The leaf was only halfway into the net so I went to tip it all the way in...then it stood up and shook out its wings 😳 It was huge and I'd never seen this bug before. Turns out we don't usually get these here, rescued 2. #katydid #insects

OMG apparently the people who bought the house 2 doors down are Mariachi fans 😳 It's Wednesday night and they have a live band. I'm basically surrounded by people who love Mariachi, especially loud Mariachi. Why can't I have neighbors that love rock and metal?? I really dislike mariachi..it's like listening to Latin polka music. I can't enjoy my backyard and it will only get worse further into summer.
It's ant season again. I swear my house sits on the granddaddy of all anthills!! Backyard is nothing but streams of ants and we've had multiple incursions into our house already. Got a 10lb bag of food grade diatomaceous earth for the yard and any crevasses in the house and several bottles of Zevo. It's tough to keep ahead of it with so many cats, thus many bowls of cat food and 5 water fountains. I did find out last year that ants don't die when microwaved. 🤬 #ants #bugs #needaflamethrower
So I'm generally not afraid of arachnids but we've had a bumper crop of black widows hanging out on our back patio for a bit. I asked hubby to relocate the ones living on my zero-g chair and the heater and table next to it but he didn't see them until tonight (since that's when they come out). He has to get up at 3 for work and will be gone for nearly 3 days so I asked about it again. He was out just now in the backyard & patio naked, smoking, and relocating widows 😆 Should have gotten video!!
Have you seen TV ads for UpWork? It's basically a global employment site matching people's skill sets with companies seeking those skills. They used to be called Elance, were a start-up in 99-2000 when I applied for a job as web based CSR. Aced the phone interview & had F2F scheduled, was so excited! They called 2 days before appt to say they'd initiated a hiring freeze. Turned out CEO & others were indicted for misuse of investor's startup funds. Maybe they'll finally hire me if I apply now? 😄
It's very hard to feel optimistic for our democracy. Worries of recession are being fueled by the GQP whose electioneering is touting high inflation as being the fault of democrats. The big corporations with the GQP in their pockets keep ramping up prices, enjoying record profits guaranteeing bigger donations to their GQP puppets and increased unhappiness with the current administration and the likelihood of their GQP puppets taking back the house and senate. This is, of course, their aim. 🤬
Had a raccoon yesterday afternoon drinking water from our pool. Noticed she was limping so put food and fresh water outside where we think she's denning. Last night her limp was worse and she's in no shape to fight the other raccoons coming to our yard. It also became clear that she has kitts hidden away somewhere as she's obviously been nursing. Going to try to find the den with her babies today and try to trap her and the babies to take to a friend who's a wildlife rehabilitator.
For the most part I don't believe in the death penalty but for mass shooters I believe that's the only sentence that should be available. In this case it appears police ended the murderer's life. In all cases where the mass shooter survives and is convicted which, as wrongful conviction in these shootings is virtually impossible, they will be, it is my belief they should be put to death. No appeals, no mental health excuses, no lengthy prison stay before hand. Just.End.Them! #DeathPenalty
OMG! Just left the ER after 9 hours. Eyeball CT with and without contrast, ultrasound of both eyes, luminescent dye, erythromycin ointment, and lab work. Supposed to make an appointment with an opthamologist today. All this for a cat punching me in the eye with her head. Exhausted!
