UPDATE - Okay guys. I'm done fiddling for today. Major progress has been achieved in dynamic language translation for COSO. I'll reply to this thread, in a minute with further details when I've poured myself a drink.

Okay.... here's the deal.... none of this is working for you guys right now, but it for me....

You'll soon be able to select you native language inside COSO. When you do, upon initial page load Google will seamlessly translate pretty much everything into you native tongue. As it does.

BUT... that doesn't work for our interface, because we have columns that just update, without you having to refresh. So Even tho Google did the initial translate on page load, any new content does not .... Contd

So I've partnered with a 3rd party and have been linking our columns to their API (it's fast) - I basically disassemble the JSON object that is your post, extract the actual content part, fire it to the 3rd party, get a response and reassemble the JSON object and send it on it's way.

This way a French person can be on COSO posting in French but YOU will see it in your language, but if you reply in....

.... your language THEY will see it in their language. All on the fly and transparently and seamlessly for both sides of the conversation. If a post has been translated there will be an identifier on the post to say as much.

This all happens dynamically. And you shouldn't notice much of anything apart from you'll notice the indicator on the post to signal it was translated for you. And so will the other person on the other end.

Wait... it gets really complicated..... So DM's......

...... that is to say YOUR private messages. Well, I'm not willing to send your private messages to a 3rd party for translation. You see, I could encrypt them before sending, but the 3rd party wouldn't be able to read them to translate them. So unless I can make a deal with them to have their technology housed by me, under my control, or some other solution, DM's will NOT be dynamically translated between languages / parties.
