Even the relatively conservative newspaper understands why this is a moment. The fascism personified by the barely sentient Cheeto in repugnant humanoid form is contagious. Our fascists like it too.
But if it's utterly incompetent, it's easy to deal with.
If, however, the courts give it substance or it somehow seems official, Even reasonable people will shrug 🤷♂️, and say, "We're only following orders."
This is the thing I've been most concerned about in all this.
The media doesn't understand how their language is so often supportive of silliness and more often in support of rightists.
Here, it's super simple:
There was a deadline, and the RWNJs failed to meet it. Full Stop.
But notice how - in what they think is the interest of 'balanced journalism - they fail to report context.
Never forget: Commercial journalism is, by definition, conservative because it relies on non-radical funding.

Most of it is 💩, of course, but this is kinda pretty IMHO.
Look, if absolutely nothing else, you have to be impressed by the 100% commitment of the Australian political right to the idea of lining the pockets of every rich mining magnate and fossil fuel company shareholder who's ever donated $$ to them.
It's utterly unwavering.

I still can't get over this. These guys actually want people to believe that they're a viable alternative government, but they can't even manage to file paperwork properly.
Note. The Liberal Party of Australia is the Murdochian right-wing-most of our major political parties. They mean 'liberal' in the older sense of the word that connotes a free-market economy, small government, etc.
Amazing.
Where I live was one of the safest areas in the whole country for the right-wing Liberal Party of Australia until only about 6 years ago, now they've somehow stuffed up the nomination process and failed to get any candidates on the ballot for the local government election next month.
Oh! How the pathetic have become even more pathetic.

Welp. Here's a new and novel way to make sure the major right-wing party doesn't get to govern in your local area:
Have them forget to register any candidates so they won't be on the ballot 👍
