There was a thoughtful article in the paper this morning about how T****'s election and idiocy probably won't do much damage to Australia's economy.
I remarked to my mate that, while that's probably correct, it wasn't my biggest worry.
Now, just like clockwork, the worst among us show that they've learned how to exploit a bigger worry about it.

But he knows what he's doing. He's encoding himself to the racists as being on their side. I've seen this before, even from Indigenous People hoping to appeal to the far-right. It sometimes even works.
The performative flag lapel pin is another code. That's common in the US, but Australians tend not to be that jingoistic except on special occasions, so guys wanting to appeal to the far-right have started to wear them all the time to show that they're on the team.

This is a terrible thing to say, but given the man's skin tone I wonder if he's aware of what he'd be called by those Americans whose "values" he claims to share.
