Another way to calm down all the noise is to halt the firehose by scrolling down a little--the posts still happen, they just don't keep pushing down the view. Scroll up at your leisure until ready to do something else.
Another alternative: open the menu of the firehose, & limit it to Media only with the switch, or even unpin it completely.
