Long story short, 4 or 5 years ago Dan Harmon MeToo'd himself with an apology letter to the person he abused, outed himself in its full fucked uppedness. I felt like it warranted discussion, as I thought it set a precedent for those in power who have done wrong to make amends.
4 years later I'm responsible for news of other fucked up shit he did in 2009 that just came out.
Was I wrong to think his apology had value and should be discussed?
@blizzn01 agreed. I don't think we grow when we draw lines in the sand and equate any attempt to see each others humanity as a sign that we sign off on all of their shortcomings. Empathy is powerful, there is a reason soldiers are punished for fraternizing with the enemy. Conflicts of ideology is manufactured and maintained by the illusion of superiority, and shattered by the mere fact that we are all the same.
@DanIsWriting i also think that powerdynamics can be a mirror for what ppl contribute to a common goal or idea. ppl who want an idea to work in cooperation with others can never forget that we are all equal as humans just with different value to a temporary goal. it should be ok to say to somebody i respect your commitment but i feel u dont act in the best interest of our common idea.

Abusers are very adept at duping people. It's how they get away with abuse for so long.
Narcissists cannot change. That kind of personality disorder prevents them from any capability of self-reflection.
I have 3 narcissists in my family. I moved to another country to get distance from one of them. It helped, but left me away from fam and friends bc of it. I know they will never change. They can't. But they are great at tricking other people & many don't understand how abuse works.

But if I can offer this: It's good to recognize power dynamics, but it's also good to recognize you're no different from those you employ. You're not a king on a hilltop, nor a beast in a labyrinth. Isolation isn't always best. Connection breeds empathy. Empathy allows growth.
something good came out of it thogh. ignore empathy and u can ruin the best things.
