The thing that I don't understand on these emergency abortion cases is that these are people that so badly want to be parents. They are people THAT should get to be parents without risking the lives of women.

@Bix My understanding is that the Catholic Church considers even a fertilized egg to be a person, so abortion is murder.
Many evangelicals (and apparently some Catholics) seem to have taken it even further and consider an abortion to save the life of the mother unacceptable even when the embryo (or fetus) has no chance of survival.
