Some thoughts on immigration. Without more immigration, the US population will decline and age rapidly. Social Security and Medicare will become unsustainable in anything resembling their current form. Trump's plan to deport millions of immigrants would accelerate the process, yet it is popular with the electorate.
@Coctaanatis Something about the notion that economic growth tends to be stimulated by having more participants in that economy (and the reverse generally applies) seems to escape certain folks...At least that's what I've read from economists.
