Why the Age Issue Is Hurting Biden So Much More Than Trump

Both Donald J. Trump and President Biden are over 75. But voters are much less likely to worry that Mr. Trump is too old to serve.

This is the NYT piece generating anger among Biden voters, of whom I'm one, but it's about voter perception of the vigor and mental acuity of the candidates.

@Coctaanatis Here's the problem, though.

Yes, as you showed me, the piece does address Trump's decline. But these perceptions are being driven by media coverage. They don't come out autochthonously. It's like voters not knowing about the IRA; it's the media's job to inform voters about policy, but it simply doesn't. And its initial reaction to the Hur report was nothing but scandalous, feeding into "Biden is a doddering old fool."

@LiberalLibrarian The media isn't monolithic. If anything, it's more fractured than ever.

MAGA isn't reading the NYT and New Yorker, and Democrats aren't relying on Fox News and Breitbart. An NYT piece that appears critical of Biden isn't going to be read by the guys with Trump hats.

Worse, many people rely on the rage farmers that infest podcasting and social media.

It isn't that media isn't informing people, it's that many people are choosing media that leaves them ill-informed.

@Coctaanatis I *purposely* keep my YouTube feed free of politics. The news channels I watch on there are things like Euronews and DW. And when the algo suggests something ridiculous, I prune with expeditiousness.
