Just reading this morning about the continued efforts in western NC after #helene. Not sure what is happening about FEMA efforts, but Appalachia doesn't wait. They are sending in mule packers with supplies in the most devastated areas.
@CinnamonGirlE There are a few spots on the pacific crest trail where resupply packages get shipped in by horse trains. VVR is like that, and I passed a few as I trekked north.
Appalachia has taken one hell of a hit, but I know they are a very strong and resilient folk out there that have always been very keen to do for themselves.
@NiveusLepus
The devastation here is like nothing I have ever personally seen. But country folks do things differently. These people take care of their own. Even if they are backwards MAGA.

@CinnamonGirlE My partner, Jesse, is from Waynesville. He's the second generation "Off the mountain"
Ive met some of his family from that area and they are a remarkably resilient and industrious folk. They are also highly mistrusting of anything government which I wonder if it will hamper the federal response.
@NiveusLepus
Yes, they are very anti-government. I can see this shaping up to be a long nasty mess which only is hampered by their distrust.
Add the crazy conspiracy theories, such as they targeted weather control in the Republican leaning areas. 🤪
I want to scream at people and just remind that people have lost everything. Some their lives. Now isn't the time for this political bs. A theee year old just cares about wanting their mommy and a safe place.
Keep the main thing, the main thing.
@NiveusLepus
As nutty as some of them are, I have to respect that. They take care of their own.
