A simple comfort food but it reminds me so much of my grandmother
When we were growing up she’d save the bacon green and cook green beans from the garden in it. Delicious
I remember helping her snap the ends off. And we’d make them in great big pots which shed then can for the rest of the year.

Many green bean snapping and canning parties here in the summer. And bacon grease makes them wonderful.
It’s such a nice thing to do together.. it’s productive but you also get to talk..

Kind of a call back to the old days. Some of the good things about it. Everybody, old to young, gather around and join in. I treasure those talks and memories.
@CinnamonGirlE me too. It really bonded me to my grandparents. I learned so much from just doing these simple things together.
@Museek @CinnamonGirlE I still make my mom's great-grandmothers apple butter recipe every year. I used to make that with my mom's mom. I miss her every time I do it and I feel her love every single time.

@CinnamonGirlE @Museek my recipe is one of those family things that is more of a write up of notions and not exact. Stuff like "half as much sugar as juice" but it makes the best I have ever had.
@CinnamonGirlE @Museek My recipe is meant to use a bushel and I don't know how to reduce it. I always have extra! Won't sell but will trade. If I sold it, it would cost too much.
