Unpopular opinion probably, but rights formulated in the eighteenth century don’t necessarily support freedom in the twenty-first.

The power of an a single individual to harm others has grown exponentially in that time

@Anarchaeologist I have recently come up against this politically with my good friend which is “what’s actually bad about the CCCP and China?” Perhaps I’m not exercising all my rights as heavily as I could, a lot of what’s been “taken” from me is the result of capitalists buying the legal and political systems around us all, but maybe it’s really okay in the sense of regular ass people living a normal ass life?

@Chriskorvela It’s all about trying to strike a balance for me. There are threats from left and right, but the very concept of individual rights does a lot to counteract authoritarian communism/ state capitalism like China.

But I’m also sick of seeing the damage done by guns and misinformation, and wish people (at least in the US) could at least have a conversation about it

@Anarchaeologist I see that, of course. One thing that bugs the shit out of me about neoliberalism is though I don’t think we’re actually going to foment a socialist Revolution at this point, alarmingly even facing down the end goal of not the neoliberals themselves but their controllers in rising fascism, but the middle level has to twig in at some point that a feral population of people with no money isn’t going to be good for the economy.
