: It's interesting how many people seem to believe that the way people behave today is somehow different from the way people acted decades, hundreds, or thousands of years ago, as if greed, envy, obtuseness, stupidity, goofiness, apathy, outrage over injustice, and all are somehow solely modern things or are somehow worse now than ever before in human history.
The only thing different is technology.
@thedisasterautist one of my professors back in college excavated at Meroe in Sudan which is an independent kingdom which existed for about 600 years. Part of their excavation uncovered the sack of Meroe by the neighbouring Aksumites in 350 AD, which was widely condemned at the time for its brutality. Of course people have done worse before and after, but I always think about that because even back then, people wanted a better world and clearly stated said as much as widely as possible.
