One of my most favorite books, The Alienist by Caleb Carr, is coming to TV on Monday on TNT with Luke Evans as the narrator, John Moore. However, if you plan to watch, I urge you to read the book first. It is set in 1890s NYC and the investigation of shocking murders using new forensics.. fingerprinting and psychology. Think Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper. This book fostered my love of historical crime solving fiction w/facts #CoSoBookClub
@kpcc6s The trailer is a superb depiction of the darkness in the book, visually and symbolically. I have waited years for this book to come to the screen.
@ChippySuave
I'm in. Reading it tonight.
@Steve3762 Yayyy! Let me know what you think! 🙂
@ChippySuave This is great news! One of my favorite books. Thanks for the heads up and link.
@ChippySuave Thanks! I had not yet heard of this show. I liked Mindhunter on Netflix for similar reasons, seeing the depiction of where behavioral science began with the FBI and catching criminals.
@SheResisted I am eagerly awaiting season 2 of Mindhunter. My son and I watched season 1 on a binge watch while he was home for Christmas Break. He's studying forensic science - physical evidence with a chemistry/criminal justice dual minor. 🙂
Did you get a chance to watch the first episode of The Alienist?
@ChippySuave Not yet. Watched all the 3 min 'behind the scenes' and then got distracted by work around house. I think new episodes are tomorrow night, so will try to watch by then. I'm as intrigued by NYC history as well.
@SheResisted Cool fact: The author Caleb Carr is a historian and first passed the book off to the publisher as non-fiction, only later to fess up. He incorporates everything from the businesses found on specific streets to the policies within the police department. He is very detail oriented which puts some people off the book. Although for the show, they actually shot the series in Budapest with a full set of 5 street blocks designed.
@ChippySuave Also, congrats to your son on cool degrees! Those are a real under taking, but should make for interesting career choices!
@SheResisted Thanks.. he's wanted that field of study since he was in middle school. He loves it.
@ChippySuave the commercials are very intriguing
