I agree with a restriction on tobacco and liquor under SNAP, but that already exists. I don't understand allowing the purchase of spices, including salt and pepper, yet paper plates and napkins are disallowed.

@RJMay3 @jag5081 I agree about tobacco and booze. Growing up on food stamps, I know how important spices can be for making food taste good on a limited budget. Paper plates and napkins were not something we ever needed because of actual plates, which you can now get a whole set at thrift stores for less than a package of paper plates.

I had to look that up. It's every bit as bad - if not worse - than this summary.
It's also something to keep an eye on in other states because nothing like this is brought to any state house floor without ALEC being behind it these days. We can look for copies of this in every red state in the country, I think, as well as the Federal House of Representatives.

It's double crazy because WIC at least lets you buy cheese, unless they've changed since I had to use it 30+ years ago.
Under this, poor people could buy dried beans. But no butter, spices, meat, or anything else that could turn it into anything but "flavorless beans and brown rice every single day."
No frozen meals (meat) and no fresh meat.. what the hell? It's like they just want people looking like they were in "Flowers in the Attic".. emaciated, sickly pallor, without enough protein or substance to actually put in a hard day's work.

Canned meat only. Tuna and canned chicken breast would qualify, apparently. Deviled ham or "armor potted meat food product."
It's the added cruelty of not allowing any spices or butter. I could put a tin of canned chicken breast into brown rice, but without butter or oil and spices - note that canned soup is not allowed either so you can't even add cream of mushroom or chicken to it.
Every meal a flavorless, joyless chore.
