I spoke with my daughter's high school guidance counselor yesterday. She said that five teachers have quit since September, at that high school alone. Morale is down and there is a teaching shortage. Teachers are being asked to sub for other teachers. My older daughter when through their Future Teachers of America program and they called and offered $25/hr if she would come in and tutor/help out.
Teachers are hurting. If you can, be kind and compassionate.
@ChippySuave My child, a high school teacher, was priced out of housing in his city by a salary not keeping up so he is living out of his vehicle during the week and staying with us weekends. Is it any wonder they are leaving? He doesn't want to break his contract but summer will be a different story.
@Whovian10 OMG! It's ridiculous how undervalued our teachers are. But not even just them.. every person we ask from birth through 18 to take care of our children in any capacity.
I'll also add agri-workers and first responders to the undervalued and underpaid.
