North Carolina lawmakers are once again pushing to arm teachers with guns, and they're trying to make it worth teachers' while.
Filed on Wednesday, the School Security Act of 2019 would give a 5% salary boost to teachers who undergo basic police training.
These "teacher resource officers" could carry guns in an open or concealed manner, and they would have the same arrest powers as police officers, the bill says.

Make this another state I won't be moving to while I have kids in school.
@ChippySuave I wonder if they can take the course, get the raise, and no one can find out they're NOT carrying? 🕊
@croning Would they then be held liable if something went down and they weren't ready for it. OTOH.. Knowing for a fact there are racist and hot headed teachers in every school.. I'm also concerned this is a school-to-prison shortcut if teachers have the ability to make an arrest.
@ChippySuave I’m a teacher and I’m ok. But I’ve lost/misplaced my keys more times than I can count. I am so absorbed in the task at hand in the teaching that I don’t notice where I put them....always found so not lost but misplaced. So my question is, how would this work? So me, ‘Has anyone seen my gun? I know I had it during first period?” Or maybe I’m a dinosaur and should become extinct...maybe I care too much and should pay attention to things other than my students. This is my posit.
