i don't know who posted about the bad o2 sensor in their vehicle, but my check engine light went on shortly after that.
mechanic scanned a faulty o2 sensor yesterday and replaced it today. here's hoping the problem's not viral. 😷

@richquaal Check engine lights are usually emission based problems.

I thought that's what it was going to be, but it was the o2 sensor itself according to the shop. Hope replacing it isn't masking an underlying problem.

@richquaal Be careful when it comes to O2 sensor stuff. There are up to 3-4 on some cars and some not so good shops will start replacing parts without knowing which is the problem. I'm an old school muscle car guy, I know how they try to get you.

@Ch3fchr1sto

Code came back bank 2, sensor 1. Vehicle has over 100k mi. I had them replace a leaky cat converter a year ago. You're right, there are 4 sensors. But i'll trust them because they're the only non-dealer shop in this small town where i've taken my vehicles for 9yrs. Doesn't mean the bank 1 sensor won't go bad also though, so thanks for the advice! (I watched a few vids to see what's what. Which also proved my knowledge is limited.)
