Tell me your experience using a short course of OTC omeprazole for heartburn? I'm eating 2-4 antacids in a day, so not an insane number, but 1-2 at bedtime has become more in the last we'll-call-it-three weeks, and it occurs to me it might be worth upgrading until I can get a better handle on stress/anxiety.

And, of course, I hold any respondants harmless for any actions I may or may not take based on you sharing your own feedback!

Thx

@CLManussier any reason why you don’t prefer Pepcid/Famotidine? Famotidine is usually the recommended first line of defense for intermittent bouts of heartburn.

@CLManussier I take famotidine 10-20 mg (I take the higher dose if I know I’m going to have something that’s going to aggravate the reflux.) 30 min before breakfast and before bed. And I rarely need Tums or rolaids. The famotidine is enough.

@MotherDucker

Mostly that everyone in my orbit seems to be on panto- or omeprazole. Where my mind went first. My hubs used to take Famotidine until Doc put him on p'prazole.

@CLManussier I've been on mine for quite awhile. Both my GP and gastroenterologist have approved it. I take as little as I need when I do but if I skip too many days, I have trouble. Every test I've had to date, exempting my gallbladder removal, haven't shown any reason for it other than I'm just really acidic. 🤷‍♀️

@CLManussier

I have GERD and Barrett's Esophagus.

I've been taking omeprazole as a prescription for a couple of years. For most people it is a short term thing but because of my issues I'm on it forever.

I used to wake up from the pain of the acid in my chest and throat. I haven't had that problem since I've been taking the omeprazole.

One 40mg capsule, once a day.

@CLManussier

i realize this
is off the topic
you asked for

perhaps food for thought

i used to have reflux

after trying many things
that were not effective

i went on journey
of discovery to get to
the bottom of what
was causing the reflux

i discovered it was
being caused
by eating food with
saturated or trans fat content

after weaning those things
out of my diet
the reflux went away

@CLManussier H had the same issue last year. I got him to take magnesium and it's worked for him.
"Acid reflux & heartburn - magnesium will reduce spasm of the lower esophageal sphincter and prevent the release of acid into the esophagus. Magnesium is also needed for stomach acid production, so deficiency can be an indicator of low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria)"

@CLManussier I have a presciption for Pantoprazole which I take sporadically, only when needed, and it helps a lot.

I was getting horrible acid reflux that would wake me up at night. I also raised the head of my bed up a couple of inches which helped too. Certain food at dinnertime seems to make it worse, so if I eat late or have something I think might trigger it, I take a pill.

@CLManussier I’ve taken Omeprazole AND Pantoprazole long term. They work wonderful for GERD, etc. Just be aware that they can increase your risk for kidney disease.

@Valkyrie_D @CLManussier
My two cents: I’ve been on
40mg daily pantoprazole for ten years. I can eat anything and no esophagus issues. Before was getting pretty bad.
But like all drugs got to be aware of potential issues. I’ve been fine so far. 🤞
Another friend treated his symptoms by not eating anything after 3pm. Working great for him.

@CLManussier
Have asymptomatic acid reflux - had a severe reaction to omeprazol/sucraflate. Am now on voquezna - and no problems.
