I've volunteered as a poll worker for 10 yrs. I worked at the polls for the last 12 days and the reasons why trump won were made clear to me there. I am a trained observer in identifying political shifts and trends.
For those saying it was a stolen election - STOP. Show your proof if you have it. In #NYC all went by the book. What I saw at the polls, informed my understanding.
support ⬆️ has 4 major reasons: "Inflation, Immigration, Disinformation. & Hate"

1st overriding reason people chose Trump over Harris: Inflation.
Inflation sent the cost of everyday goods skyrocketing and they have remained high (28% since 2020) post pandemic.
Median rental price in NYC has risen over 13% since 2019 and has increased considerably.

2nd reason Trump got more votes than Harris: Immigration.
NY and other blue states across the north east felt the impact of the migrant crisis. Rupert Murdoch made sure that Fox & his newspapers made this its #1 issue day in and day out. NYC Mayor's public fight with Biden & the Feds didn't help.

Disinfo is the 3rd reason.
Working in many ethnic neighborhoods this year as a translator, I saw many ads/video clips praising "Our Dear Leader" in the style that you see in oppressive countries, in the predominant language of that neighborhood. Never saw Kamala ads in Spanish.

Another reason or two: many people voting for TFG harbor deep prejudices of numerous varieties. They wallow in prejudice.
Some, if not many, TFG supporters are flat out mean, and enjoy his brutality and cruelty. The cruelty really is the point.
This election really was as much about character, as it was about anything else.
The 4th reason Trump won is reflected in the 30% increase in support for trump in #NYC predominantly among white men and men of color.
Trump is an int'l brand that presents as a “successful macho man”, who's hate and misogyny is a pushback against:
- losing their place of importance &
- a culture they are powerless to influence
This results in the politics of hate which embraces: sexism, racism, antisemitism, xenophobia and homophobia as a way to strike back.
