Right now, LIVE, the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners Meeting is being overridden by people telling the town not to have a Pride fest.
A few minutes before this, there were Palestinians presenting videos of bad stuff in Palestine.
To anyone who is concerned of the several homophobic verbal attacks on the Wake Forest Pride Fest event mentioned in this thread:
If you watch the video recording of the town meeting tomorrow after it is posted, please be sure to skip ahead to the very end of the meeting where Commissioner Adam Wright spoke eloquently that the event meets all event criteria and cannot be denied by the hating few (my words - he was more eloquent and diplomatic).
I will post a link to the video, along with units of time to quickly find the right spot on the the video once it is available. It's usually available the next day, in the afternoon, but lately it's been taking longer.
The Palestinians showing up at the local town meeting to speak about global rather than local affairs was wrong of them, as was the homophobic Christians speaking against a lawful, approved event by speaking of homophobic scriptures and sodomy.
Here is a link to the video of Public Comments at Wake Forest BOC meeting last night.
Warning 1: First few speakers are Palestinian sympathizers speaking of atrocities. Mayor Jones allowed national /global speeches rather than town business! This sets a very bad precedence during a heated POTUS election year!
Warning 2: Starts at 1:05. Some Christians speak against gays w/ bible verses of sodomy to oppose lawful Pride event 10/5.
Skip to very end of vid for retort.
@Priestess TIL Wake Forest isn't just a school.
Glad that came out okay...
@Priestess @rpardee 13 yrs ago I had a 5 yr plan to retire early to NC and possibly teach at UNC. I visited friends in Durham to begin the process of finding a place to live. As I began to explore I began to see hints of intolerance and in later visits this became overt acts of hatred and racism. I then decided to stay in inclusive NYC.
The anti-pride folks speaking had no understanding of either the constitution or the founding fathers. They did have a sad & narrow understanding of the bible.
@Bliss @rpardee
I frequently go to Durham but only to the Veterans Medical Center. I always see a ton of respect for everyone in those halls.
Maybe that's what happens when people realize how important and necessary it is to depend on and actually trust each other? Then, to take it a step further by being nice and having fun together ... that's where it's at! 😉 😍
