Then came the '67 riots. I remember my parents were strangely excited by the chaos and we drove right into the areas where tanks and snipers could be seen driving around. Saw people with bricks smashing storefront windows. Had a 9pm curfew. The street Livernois was once "The Avenue of Fashion" where my mom would take me to B. Siegel and the 5&10 for grilled cheese. My dad would take me to Darbys for corned beef sandwiches. All those stores disappeared quickly, almost overnight
