@ATXJane I met/trained under Kernberg in LA (and Masterson), so I like your tastes :) Milton Erickson fascinated me and Karen Horney won my respect :)
@Blackwolf Mutual admiration here. I’ve been studying Ericksonian hypnotherapy - many years ago I had a meal w/Dr Erickson shortly before his death. He was lovely.
@ATXJane WOW that must've been a highlight moment! Jeff Zeig pruports to be a mentee but I have my doubts that he fully understood where Erickson was coming from .
@Blackwolf Here’s the crazy part about Erickson: I was sitting alone & he asked if he could join me. I didn’t know <<<WHO>>> he was. But he was lovely & a nice meal companion. Ironically, I was on the path of social psych & I/O psych & only returned to school much later to pursue spiritual psych which _then_ led to a counseling degree. So much fun soaking up all that psych!
I get what you’re saying about Zeig. I’d love to grok Erickson myself, actually.🥰 Where do you think he was coming from?
@Blackwolf Nice to meet another therapist! I’m informed by the concepts advanced by Eric Fromm and later, Otto Kernberg. While malignant narcissism isn’t in the DSM as a diagnostic description, it is an interesting thought piece about the dynamics underlying psychopathy/sociopathy.
But I agree: screw the [basic] narcissist theory…he’s a sociopath. For sure. For real. We would be in a whole other place right now if his mental illness had been discussed widely in the media at the get go.
