Urban Indian Health got back to me

South Dakota has not released any racial data to the CDC since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We don’t have firm confirmation on why they have not released this information to the CDC. That said, South Dakota is collecting racial data, and it is available to the public (albeit in a limited format).

@Museek The tribes decide how much data they're willing to part with. After smallpox they are understandably suspicious.

@Blackwolf
Hi
Is that how they’re doing it in your area? Which tribes? I know IHS has to report to the State. My cousin is a doctor who works at Pine Ridge IHS. She said they reported but that S. Dak. wasn’t reporting. She also said that’s JUST on the Rez- that there are many off the reservation & many unenrolled that they don’t know about.

Indeed, smallpox was devastating to Natives, as this is becoming but most tribes here work pretty much work with the gov’t-those are the only jobs :(

@Museek Some things are federal some are not. have IHS too but also their own sovereign health care. I work for Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council. Separate from Federal/State
