Dean Parrish - I'm On My Way, 1967 NYC
*this song didn't become a hit until 1975 because DJ's were playing in the UK's #NorthernSoul clubs.

Soul singer Dean Parrish (real name Philip Anastasi) had a crazy career. He played guitar sessions for Herbie Mann, Santana & Hendrix in the early 70's.
Unknown to him that he was a star in the UK. Someone found him & he played to 1000's at the 2001 #NorthernSoul Weekend festival.

Oh shit, I thought you were talking about Steve Parish.

And I was so disappointed that you didn't light your love lamp.

You don't like the 1960's Dead, but I do.

I had a deadhead friend who cursed "Touch of Grey" because he felt the Dead were a privileged secret and it made them commercial.

For me that was one of the worst tunes they ever did. I never liked "Hell in a Bucket" either although I generally like Weir's stuff.

This is one of my favorite GD tunes and Phil who couldn't play simple country tunes, (50% of their repertoire), to save his life does great with this jazzy stuff.

Ah yes, "Help/Slip/Frank" as I'm told it's called when appearing on live albums and boots. 😎

I tried Blues for Allah and From the Mars Hotel as a teen. I was ungrateful.🤣

Speaking of “albums I tried as a teen because they’re supposed to be good” Spirit’s first album came to mind. Only two songs caught my ears, Uncle Jack 3:12 and Girl in Your Eye 13:52. It includes Taurus which inspired Stairway to Heaven (never thought there was a case there). Here’s nice sounding remastered version: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NsCa-JxIGXw&pp=ygUfc3Bpcml0IGZyZXNoIGdhcmJhZ2UgZnVsbCBhbGJ1bQ%3D%3D
How about you?

'Fresh Garbage' was one of the first songs I taught myself when I picked up the bass.
@tgraph52 I just figured out Nature's Way 🎶 briefly: A9, A, G#sus, G# %, C#sus, A with b5, B, C#sus, A with b5, B, E, B, A withb5, A.

😀 That's WAY more information than I ever assigned to a song. I just learned it by ear and memorized what I played. No keys or chords. I mean, if I thought about it I knew what key. Probably not the best way to learn but it worked OK for what I was doing. 😀
@tgraph52 @Charles_Hawtrey @InUnfunky @Bix @Mfieck @t_heislen @Bobk37 @CinnamonGirlE @JoyfullyDazed
I know more chords by shape than name and can play ‘em faster than saying E flat demented flat 5. The Unfunky one prolly knows more theory than I do.

Almost opposite here. "Hell" is a fave. "Shakedown" on the studio lp is okay, but I skip live versions.
Contra Bix, I CANNOT STAND their awful cover of "Dancing In The Street" with Donna shrieking her lungs out. (shudder)
Sorry for any offense. I AM a Touchhead. 😉
@Charles_Hawtrey @Bix @Mfieck @CanisPundit @t_heislen @Bobk37 @CinnamonGirlE @JoyfullyDazed @tgraph52
That is -- from my pitiable Touchhead POV -- the acceptable canonical opinion when it comes to the late era and its influx of all us Gen X brats. As with everything bratty (even at 55, heh), I own it. 😆
I get it -- "you had" a little (mass marketed pop culture) secret, and now the Philistines are trampling the rose bed ("I don't know, maybe it was..." sorry) and dirtying the Persian rug.
@InUnfunky @Charles_Hawtrey @Bix @Mfieck @CanisPundit @t_heislen @Bobk37 @CinnamonGirlE @JoyfullyDazed
I can't imagine any Dead fans being too upset over more Dead fans.
The later stuff, post 1980 didn't appeal to me but I certainly don't mind if others have a different opinion [however miguided 😇 ]

I AM a full-blown Touchhead, it's true.
I had no older bro or sis to turn me on to Jerry n' Bobby...and Tampa AOR (NTM Top 40, of course) wasn't playing the Dead. (Same goes for my exposure to FZ.)
It wasn't until 95YNF (the rock station at the time) started playing "Touch Of Grey" (ah memories, the summer of '87 and I'd just graduated H.S.) that I went "Oh, I think I get it..." 🤓 🙄 🤓
