@Bix

I’m afraid to ask this… are any of the thousands of birds trapped in Milton alive?

'...coincide with the fall migration of birds in North America. Scientists say such storms can be deadly for birds, but many species have ways to cope with hurricanes; some even benefit.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center radar recently observed a flock of birds traveling in the eye of the hurricane... it is “fairly common” to find certain types of birds inside a hurricane, Andrew Farnsworth, visiting scientist at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology...'

@Agatha @Bix Surprised any can remain aloft long enough for the storm to blow itself out. This one will go back into the Atlantic.

Several species rarely touch ground anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Agatha @Bix Yeah, but they still gotta eat during the time they are trapped, right?

Hope they can survive 5-10 days aloft.

Maybe some can land inland and find shelter?

@S_r_stone @Bix

Apparently they hang out in the eye where the winds are fairly calm, but the fish get churned up to the surface by the storm.

@Bix
So the doofus who decided to ride out the storm in his sailboat in Tampa Bay is dealing with a hailstorm of seagulls?
