Turtles appear in parables, stories, and popular culture, and we honor them on World Turtle Day. Turtles are symbols of wisdom and endurance. They are reptiles that live in a variety of settings. These species are vital to their environments. They dig holes for other critters to live in and keep our beaches clean by eating dead fish that wash up on the coast. They help to maintain ecological equilibrium, hence they must be protected.
