This is my fourth attempt to get into the old 90's Babylon 5 series. I was a kid growing up so of course I watched DS9 instead.

I've always heard about how it ripped off Babylon 5 so I'm naturally curious, plus I've enjoyed J. Michael Straczynski's stuff in the past.

But.. this is rough. The quality doesn't seem as good, or maybe I'm biased. None of these characters are gripping me as interesting. What am I missing that people loved so much?

@TK11612 Season 1 only hints at the greatness to come. There will be a shakeup in the cast, and the lore will grow. The villians get better and the characters get some real development.

It really comes into its own in season 2 and beyond, but then there is a reference to an event in season one that the whole series revolves around.

It will get there. It's like watching a Wim Wenders film. For a long time you're wondering why you bought the ticket and then all of a sudden everything clicks.

@Animeraider I wondered if it was one of those shows that needed a season to find its feet. A lot of sci-fi shows were like that back then. My worry is when it does I won’t know who any of the people are because my mind wandered too much in season 1.

@TK11612

The best stuff (IMHO) revolves around Walter Koenig's character of "Bester". In the end, he appears in more episodes of Babylon 5 than he did of TOS Star Trek.

@TK11612 Alas, he doesn't show up until season 2, but some of the groundwork is laid for his existence in season 1
