Republicans retain control of the House, CNN projects, giving the party sweeping power following presidential and Senate victories. cnn.com/2024/11/13/politics/ho

Trump lied, cheated and stole for a second presidency, and he got it, by hook and by crook.

Why does he look so miserable?
Because winning and leading are two very different things.

On November 15th, Twitter(X) will update its Terms of Service to remove the opt-out for allowing user content to be used to train their AI.

If you know anyone who's on Twitter and is tired of being a commoditized product, please let them know this change is coming, and suggest they move to an alternative social media service as soon as possible.

The alternative service? Isn't it obvous? 😉

November 13th marks the beginning of Transgender Awareness Week, a week dedicated to raising visibility for transgender people and addressing the issues that members of the community face. It leads up to Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) on November 20th, which honors the memory of those who lost their lives to anti-transgender violence.

Before Musk, Twitter was one of the most important journalistic outlets in the world. Now The Guardian, one of the most important newspapers in the world, has abandoned it.

The purpose of America's border walls will radically change over the next four years of a Trump administration.

Originally built to keep unwanted outsiders from entering the country, they will eventually function more to imprison Americans who are looking to escape a country devolving into an armed camp of fascism and religious mania.

The success of the Republican party is based on training people to be proud of their shitty behavior instead of feeling guilty for it. An undercutting of the very fabric of society. A nation of self-righteous, selfish bullies.

Jack Smith will step down as Special Counsel before Donald Trump takes office.

The move will allow him to finish his report and leave the job before he can be fired.

A critical mass of voters simply did not hear about [trump's] positions, or did not believe them if they did. (The most bleak thread in this story are interviews with unauthorized immigrants who say they would have voted for Trump if they could, assuming that surely he would not deport them, as they’re honest and hardworking folks.)

NEW TRUMP "PROMISES":

1. A new national University w/free tuition.

2. Ten new “freedom cities”.

3. A new countrywide missile defense system.

4. Manned missions to Mars.

5. Completion of the southern border wall.

6. Cut the overall federal budget by 33%.

Oh, and Mike Huckabee will achieve peace in the Middle East.

If you believe he'll keep even one of these promises in the next four years, I have a NFT of a bridge I can sell you.

Trump is appointing Mike Huckabee ambassador to Israel.

This feels simultaneously like the punchline of a really funny joke that I want to laugh my ass off at, and a nightmare that I can't wake up from.

"Grammy, is it true that girls used to be able to vote, and have real jobs, and not have babies if they didn't want to?"

"Yes child, we used to be able to do all those wonderful things."

"Why did they stop that, Grammy?"

"Because the price of eggs was too high, sweetie."

When fascists come to power, the first thing they attack are national and international institutions: political parties, labor unions, churches. Anything which could be the basis of a broad-based opposition to the régime is dissolved or co-opted.

If you want to resist, you cannot abandon these institutions. They have to be protected. Once they're gone, the fascists can wipe up the smaller groups piecemeal and at their leisure. They won't be much fussed about knitting circles.

An H5N1 influenza pandemic under someone like TFG (read: horrifically mismanaged) would be catastrophic. And probably the end of their regime.

H5N1 is *extremely* lethal - with a recorded human fatality rate of over 50%.

You can't afford to mismanage a pathogen that lethal the way COVID was mismanaged; that's the kind of mistake that wipes out entire towns, destroys any semblance of order, & topples nations.

There are rapidly increasing warning signs that an H5N1 pandemic may be on its way.

I won't shed a single tear for anyone who chose to vote for Trump. They deserve all the pain and suffering they will experience over the next four years. Hopefully it will teach them a hard lesson about the consequences of their choices.
