Unlike a lot of discontinued medical practices, frog tests were no quackery, in fact, they were almost impeccably accurate. historyofyesterday.com/when-fr

@estherschindler they also used other animals. Julie Andrews talks about it in one of her memoirs. I think rabbits? Or mice? Don't remember.

except the frog was observed to lay eggs if the injection was from a pregnant woman or animal; the rabbit, mouse, rat tests took longer & involved vivisection to study their sex organs... The frog did not have to be killed.

I note with sadness the mention of how the export & use of these frogs as test subjects is now believed to have caused the current, devastating decline in amphibians globally, from a fungus they were resistant to... but few other amphibians are.

VW's Golf was originally called the Rabbit. It was fiercely loved by its owners, but it was extraordinarily unreliable. So a lot of people were making jokes saying, "the rabbit died."

Humor is funny isn't it? adaptable.

Jokes about the rabbit dying for pregnancy test depended on tge misconception that only pregnant urine injections killed test rabbits. In fact, every test (positive or negative) killed the rabbits, mice, rats, used for examinations of whether sex organs had changed.

Frogs laying eggs within hours tho meant observation did not require kill-autopsy/vivisection; & the frogs were re-usable for pregnancy tests.

Humanity's harsh, especially to non-human life.

VWs... I am watching some tv shows on cruising canals in England, on narrow boats on its amazing network of canals. & I know Van Life is a global thing. Traveling urges find their outlets.
